A beautiful day in Iraan

The drive to Iraan this morning was really beautiful with the clouds and sun playing hide-and-go-seek among the mesas. In Iraan, it was time for lunch at the Senior's Center where Pastor Charles was invited by Wanda Morrow to sit at "The Queen's Table!" What an honor!

June 27th @ FUMC - Iraan

Our monthly breakfast potluck took place this morning prior to the worship service. This has quickly become a fixture on the FUMC calendar and makes for a great time of food and fellowship leading into our worship time.
With several of members on the road this weekend we were happy to have such faithful witness with whom to share the worship service. The July-August Upper Room was distributed to everyone with several copies available for those absent today. Thanks to James Jordan for doing double-duty as liturgist and song leader!

Do you have your Upper Room?

Be sure to pick up your copy of the July - August Upper Room when you come to worship tomorrow! Get a copy for yourself and for a neighbor, co-worker, or anyone who needs to know that the church cares for them!

Wonderful Fathers' Day Today!!!

What a wonderful time we had at the Iraan First United Methodist Church today! As always, there was great fellowship in the church kitchen and fellowship hall. Belinda was so animated when she was talking about the imminent opening of the wellness center in McCamey, it was difficult to take a picture of her when her hands weren't moving. (She says that her time living in Italy is what really amplified her hand-gesture communication.)
Pastor Charles led the congregation in giving the men-folk in the congregation a special Fathers' Day blessing. Afterwards, he presented each man with a pocket-sized WD-40 pen, so they were ready to tackle all the life-situations that might require its application. The ladies in the congregation were given a list of things that the men can now handle. It is amazing to learn about ALL the the ways that WD-40 can make our lives better; to learn more, you can click on this official list of 2000+ uses for it! What is really amazing is that the primary ingredient of WD-40 is "fish oil!"
We acknowledged that as miraculous as WD-40 is, God who is the author of all (even WD-40)... is SO AWESOME! His love, mercy and grace transform this world each and every day: How miraculous is that?!
AND... on then on the trip from Iraan to McCamey, we were awe-struck at what is the raw beauty of this place we call home: "west Texas: Yee-haw!"
Praise be to God from whom ALL blessing flow!!!

A prayer for Father's Day

For our fathers, who have given us life and love, that we show them respect and love, we pray to the Lord...

For fathers who have lost a child through death, that their faith may give them hope, and their family and friends support and console them, we pray to the Lord...

For men, though without children of their own, who like fathers have nurtured and cared for us, we pray to the Lord...

For fathers, who have been unable to be a source of strength, who have not responded to their children and have not sustained their families, we pray to the Lord...

God our Father, in your wisdom and love You made all things. Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the third Sunday after Pentecost

(Christ in the House of Simon by Dierich the Elder, 1400's)

Beckoning God, as you moved in the lives of Simon and those present in his house, move in our lives, inviting us to journey to unknown territory, to listen for your voice, and to speak your prophetic word in a world that does not want to hear. Empowered by your Spirit, grant us the courage we need to journey, trust, listen, speak, and accept your commission to be your faithful servant people. Amen.

The summer heat is truly upon us in west Texas! But the heat outdoors couldn't stop the congregation from seeking the warmth of fellowship - the lively conversation spilled over from the kitchen to the fellowship hall and into the sanctuary! Praise God for bringing us together in faith and love!
